Welcome Back to School! First School Council Meeting 09/27/2021 @6:30PM

Hello and welcome to a new school year at St. Philip School:)

Please mark your calendars for the very first virtual St. Philip Catholic School Council meeting of the year!

Monday September 27th at 6:30PM
(Virtual Meeting using Google Meet)

**to receive a Google Meet invitation please email Shondra @ shondramclean@gmail.com to indicate you wish to attend.

All interested parents are invited to attend. At this meeting we will elect a new St. Philip Catholic School Council for the 2021-2022 school year.

Each Catholic School Council functions as an advisory body to the School Principal
and the Board and can make recommendations to the Principal or the Board on any matter.

All Elected Catholic School Council members will:
participate in C.S.C. meetings, vote on issues as required
be committed to the improvement of the school
act as a link between the C.S.C. and the community
encourage the participation of parents from all groups and of other people within the school community
All parents are welcome to attend meetings throughout the school year.
You do not need to be a council member to attend meetings, any parent can do so.
Only elected members of a school council have voting privileges.  By checking off the box to become a "voting member at large" you will be able to vote on decisions made by council.  Please plan to attend a majority of meetings this year if you make this choice as we must have quorum in order to pass any votes.

Any executive position can be put to a vote at this meeting if there are more than one person interested in the position.  This year, the position of secretary is vacant at this time. All other positions have indicated they are willing to return if needed.  If you are interested in an executive position other than secretary, please contact Shondra McLean to discuss further.

Please see the 2021/ 2022 self nomination form located in the link below:

Forms can be submitted electronically to shondramclean@gmail.com.

SPS Council 2020-2021 Year End Summary

Thank you to this year’s St. Philip School Council and especially to executive members Shondra McLean, Suzanne Easton, Lori O’Brien, Fiona Cram. Tina Sul, Jodi Eady, and Michelle McIver for their continued efforts and involvement during the 2020/2021 year.  Thanks to Ms. White, Mrs Santos, and Mrs Bailey for their participation and engagement, we are so blessed by your support.  Although it was not the year we may have wanted, we made the best of it with virtual and social distanced meetings, fundraisers and events.  Please see below for a quick summary:

Fundraising:

During the 2020/2021 school year, our goal as a council was to minimize fundraising requests to parents who may be dealing with job loss or other financial pressures due to the pandemic.  We did however run a few small fundraisers for specific items which are outlined below.  Thanks to those families who were able to support these initiatives this year.

  • Gift of Reading Fundraiser for Learning Common resources raised: $1664.45

  • Christmas Poinsettia Fundraiser for French resources raised: $622.12

  • Jojos Pizza Fundraiser for Grade Six graduating students raised: $837.

Expenses:

Due to our existing balance sheet (carried over from previous years of fundraising), we were fortunate to be able to support a number of initiatives this year.

Supported teacher requests for:

  • microphones/headsets to help with teaching while wearing masks

  • Scientist in School virtual sessions

  • Luv 2 Groove virtual sessions

  • Kindergarten outdoor manipulatives

  • Miscellaneous yard items

 Other items:

  • Continued upgrades to Butterfly garden, new Adirondack chairs, mulch, bench repairs and a new learning area being set up for 2021/2022!!

  • Supported and organized the virtual 2020/2021 St. Philip Science Fair.

  • Supported purchase of hoodies for all Grade Six graduating  students.

  • Supported Sacred Heart graduating student award.

  • Supported parent engagement prizes for 2021/2022 through the PIC grant.

  • Supported Thomas D’arcy McGee Sister School donation originally committed in 2019/2020 school year.

Thanks to all our Falcon families for your support. We hope you have a safe and relaxing summer!

Support the Grade Six Graduating Class ......by eating PIZZA!

Please help support the Grade Sixes and a local business (Jo Jos Stittsville, 1573 Main Street) who has been very good to our school by ordering a pizza or two on Tuesday May 4th.

Mention St. Philip when ordering and a portion of the proceeds will go towards our graduating Grade Six class. Due to our very different school year this year, the grade sixes have not been able to do the fundraising which they typically do.

Order your pizza for pickup by calling 613-836-2210.

Many thanks to school council member Ann Nielsen for organizing this fundraiser for our Gr 6 students.
