Give the Gift of Reading - deadline to order Monday December 7th

The Gift of Reading is a St. Philip Catholic School Council initiative that supports the Learning Commons (Library). There is always an ongoing need to add quality reading material for the students to access on their visits. So, in lieu of or in addition to Christmas gifts, the staff of St. Philip would be most honored to have a donation made on their behalf to the Gift of Reading program.

Christmas greeting cards noting your donation (dollar amount not included) to the Gift of Reading are available for $2.50 each. This year donations and card orders will be done via the School Cash Online system.  The card(s) will be sent home for you to sign and add your own greeting. Your child may then present the card to his/her teacher(s), EA, ECE, etc.

Orders will be accepted until Monday, December 7th. Greeting cards will be sent home with your child on Monday, December 14th.

Please note that this program is completely optional and all donations collected for the Gift of Reading go directly towards purchasing books and materials for the Learning Commons.

If you have any questions please contact Michelle Owen at mprankie@hotmail.com.

Thank you!

Welcome Back to School! First School Council Meeting 09/28/2020 @6:30PM

Hello and welcome to a new school year at St. Philip School:)

Please mark your calendars for the very first St. Philip Catholic School Council meeting of the year!

Monday September 28th at 6:30PM
(Virtual Meeting using Google Meet)

**to receive a Google Meet invitation please email Dana @ danakean@gmail.com to indicate you wish to attend.

All interested parents are invited to attend. At this meeting we will elect a new St. Philip Catholic School Council for the 2020-2021 school year.

Each Catholic School Council functions as an advisory body to the School Principal
and the Board and can make recommendations to the Principal or the Board on any matter.

All Elected Catholic School Council members will:
participate in C.S.C. meetings, vote on issues as required
be committed to the improvement of the school
act as a link between the C.S.C. and the community
encourage the participation of parents from all groups and of other people within the school community
All parents are welcome to attend meetings throughout the school year.
You do not need to be a council member to attend meetings, any parent can do so.
Only elected members of a school council have voting privileges.  By checking off the box to become a "voting member at large" you will be able to vote on decisions made by council.  Please plan to attend a majority of meetings this year if you make this choice as we must have quorum in order to pass any votes.

Any executive position can be put to a vote at this meeting if there are more than one person interested in the position.  This year, the position of secretary is vacant at this time. All other positions have indicated they are willing to return if needed.  If you are interested in an executive position other than secretary, please contact Dana Kean to discuss further.

Please see the 2020/21 self nomination form located on the right hand side of this page
under "Important Forms" for more details. Forms can be submitted electronically to danakean@gmail.com.

Hot Lunch Program refunds now being processed

Update on Hot Lunch Program Refunds:

Refunds are now being applied for the school council run hot lunch program.
We have tested out the process and noted the following:

1) The refund will be applied to the PayPal account where you made the hot lunch payment.  If you do not have a PayPal account (you chose to pay as a "guest") you will get an email indicating that you will receive a refund.  If you create a PayPal account, you can monitor the progress of the refund.

2) The refund may take up to ten days to be processed (credited) to PayPal.  You can view the refund amount, but it will remain in "pending" state until the funds are released by PayPal.  Once the funds are cleared, the refund should be applied to the credit card you used for the purchase. It may take an additional few days to be processed to your credit card.  Please be patient.

3) If your credit card has changed or they are unable to credit your original credit card, the funds should be credited to your PayPal account.  If  you don't already have a PayPal account, you should create one using the email you used for the hot lunch transaction.  At this point, you can choose to:

a) leave the funds in your PayPal account and use them to make purchases as a PayPal credit.

b) link your bank account to your PayPal and transfer the funds to your bank account.  Again, there is a PayPal delay (a few days) to release the funds from PayPal to your bank account.

4) You can check your hot lunch account to verify the correct amount has been credited under the "Orders" tab.  Select "Account Transactions".

Any issues with refunds, please contact us via the hot lunch email account st_philip_lunches@bell.net or directly to danakean@gmail.com.

Thank you for your patience!

Sincerely,
Dana Kean and Suzanne Easton

Hot Lunch Program Credits during School Closure

Hello to the St. Philip Community,

I hope that you are all keeping safe and healthy.

Just wanted to advise that credits have been applied to the hot lunch program accounts for lunches that have been missed up to the May 3 school closure date previously announced.  If the shut down is extended, we will continue to process credits to all accounts until such time that we know if/when school will resume.  At that time, a refund will be given for all missed lunches.

If there are any families that need a refund more quickly due to circumstances, this can be arranged no questions asked.  Please keep in mind that to do this, we require two council members to meet to co-sign a refund cheque and we prefer to minimize/avoid this type of meeting if at all possible.  Please email the hot lunch email if a refund is needed:  st_philip_lunches@bell.net

Please go to "Orders" and "Account Transactions" to see this credit. <https://stphilip.hotlunches.net/>

Thank you for your understanding and patience,
Dana Kean
